We have all along had our eyes on the day when we would move from being a mission church with a temporary session to a particular church with local, ordained leadership. On Sunday, March 29th, we will move towards that very thing.
Immediately following the worship service we will have a church potluck. After the potluck we will hold a congregational meeting where we will take important steps to becoming a particular church.
This will be a traditional potluck. Each family should bring an entree big enough to feed more than just their own household as well as a veggie or dessert to share.
What is the process?
Christ Covenant is a member and under the oversight of the Blue Ridge Presbytery. The elders of the BRP have been praying for and supporting this work in Culpeper for a very long time. We now have an opportunity to thank them for their investment by meeting to sign a petition requesting that the BRP organize us as a particular church. Becoming a particular churchmeans that we will have our own ordained, local leadership and no longer need to borrow elders from other existing PCA churches. At the upcoming congregational meeting we’ll accomplish two tasks as a congregation.
1. Call TE Joe Holland to be the pastor of Christ Covenant.
Joe is an ordained teaching elder in the Blue Ridge Presbytery and has served Christ Covenant as a mission church for 5 years. Calling him will formalize his role as pastor of Christ Covenant as a particular church. This call does not change any aspect of Joe’s current job description or compensation.
2. Vote to send the petition to particularize to the Blue Ridge Presbytery
All communing members of Christ Covenant are encouraged to sign the petition to particularize. There will also be space for visitors and prospective new members to sign as well. This signed petition will be presented to presbytery at it’s next stated meeting on April 25th.
This is a time to rejoice in what God has done and is doing at Christ Covenant. Should you have any questions please don’t hesitate to get in touch with any of our elders or elder candidates—Joe Holland, John Orr, Ted Smith, Don Ward, Carlton Dixon, Joe Magri, or Mark King.
